Tell me what you think please. Which Asian men have the worst stereotypes in terms of boyfriend or husband material? Reason why I pose this question is because I think it is Korean men. On a purely simple superficial level, Korean men have the worst stereotypes. They love to drink, smoke, gamble, and beat their women. I’ve heard of these stereotypes from many people throughout my lifetime. Now, of course they are just generalizations but it seems there are many women out there who have dated Korean men and have had horrible experiences with them. It is true…many Korean do like to drink and smoke a lot. And many of them like to gamble as well. The beating of their women? I’m not sure about this. Is this a general Asian misconception? Or is it more specific to Korean men when comparing them to all other Asian men? Where did these stereotypes come from? The interesting thing about these stereotypes is that these are stereotypes known within the Asian community as oppose to stereotypes concocted and grossly fabricated by the white majority. Yes I do know many Korean guys who smoke, drink, and gamble excessively. What do you think?

To the Angry Pure Korean guy, nice attempt at trolling, I see you trying hard to fabricate the Korean version of broken English, dumbshit.
I am sure in any race or country, no girl would date or be with a poor loser. The girl might have affection for a guy at first, but once he runs out of money, she is gotta move on. We are not talking about what Korean men has to go through to get a women, we are talking about how Korean men behaves, they are two different things. I heard a white construction worker in the hospital yesterday complaining about his wife spending too much money. Chinese girls also look for rich men to marry, which is why many of them marry non-Chinese men. Your point is that Korean women, or women in general, are money sucking creatures, and men around the world complain about that everyday, which is a common stereotype, but we are looking at KOREAN men here.
By the way, how can you put Korean Drama and South Park/Family Guy on the same boat? South Park/Family Guy are cartoons that depicts hilarious and outlandish situations, in other words, it is comedy, not drama. I can make a cartoon where a husband beats a wife if I wanted to too, genius. It sucks that you have to spend 57% of your income your girlfriend, maybe it is time to dump her cuz she is plastic anyways.
white dude here. I always had the impression that it was Chinese who had the most offensive stereotypes applied to them by the media. Talk to ‘average joe’ american (nonAsian) and there are tons of bullshit things he would remember the media thought up to make fun of the Chinese. He’d mostly believe all of them, too.
As far as Koreans go the average Joe nonAsian will usually think about how nice South Korea is compared to North Korea which has a scary crazy man in charge (not anymore haha). Otherwise Koreans may be thought of as more ‘working class’ and mobile than Chinese/Viet/SE Asian who are ‘traditional’.
Really, that’s how I’d say most non Asians here on the East Coast would feel about it.
This is absolutely true! It all stems back to the early days when women were seen as objects and sold like livestock. From birth to marriage they were nothing more than bargaining chips and a girl that could sell for the most was a good daughter. From marriage on she was basically a slave. Sex when the husband wants it work all other times. These days they just modified it so they’re objects for lust and sex and when they get married they just become toys or baby factories while the husband can go out to the local dives and pick up a new toy to play with.
Btw the above applies to the wild white west, not Korea. Funny ain’t it?
Come on peepz we all know who the real women abusing gambling drinking smokers out there. We gotta be talking whites and blacks. Wife beater? That’s the name of their favorite tanktop. Go on youtube and you’ll find tons of “drunk off my ass” vids about drunken white boys, gangsta blacks, or coeds doing the dumbest things. Gambling is illegal in China all of China but there are NA casinos all over the US. Smoking is a billion dollar franchise. Dude seriously cut the crap. Drinkers smokers gamblers wife beaters are everywhere but nobody abuses women as easily as it gets here.
Koreans don’t have it bad. Us Chinese do. Watch the first half of Dark Knight. That’s like 60% of the shit we get. For the rest just watch anything on ABC, NBC, or CBS. You’ll find some more. The worst part is none of it is true at all. They aren’t even stereotypes anymore just China bashing.
I gotta agree with @Angry Pure Korean guy all my Korean friends tell me the same thing. And btw I mean girls so he ain’t trolling @MBLAQ. They tell me their bfs or the bfs they see with other women are all the same. one “oppa” and out comes the wallet and the puppy suit. They do w/e the gf wants when she wants it.
The stereotype is right on occassion. I mean what stereotype ain’t amirite? Korean guys do drink alot and smoke and some gamble. Guess what? So do Japanese guys and Chinese guys. Some Japanese guys beat on their girls. I know a few Canto pals say their moms got beat on too.
I’d say my japanese pals chug their booze way more. Kinda have to agree with @sunny Japanese guys are beer guzzlers who are horny as all hell and talk about it with the boys every chance they get. They are very loose about it with Japanese girls a little better with other girls but ALL of them are addicted to sex horndogs. And @sunny is right about the girls. They will flirt with you right next to their bfs. I mean she’s cute yeah but i’m not gonna hit on a girl right next to my pal her bf. wtf? They get worse if they are single. I mean guy here so being groped ain’t too bad but its like “down girl!” From what my Japanese boys tell me they’re only getting rougher and its showing.
As for my Chinese pals they have like some subculture of drinking so they know their liquor. Cantonese love mah jong and Fukinese love poker. Dammit if them guys don’t smoke like a chimney when they gamble. but you wouldn’t dare hit a Shanghai girl. She’ll tear you up for just thinking it. Most their guys are whipped.
Lucky for us Lao people as nothing comes up when you type why do lao… in google but yea about the Korean guys beating their gfs, so far so true as my Vietnamese cousin is dating a Korean and he smokes like a chimney and also beats her which is fine since I don’t really like her anyways XD
Am I blind here, or was this supposed to be about KOREAN men? First of all, remember Chinese/ Amer relationship go further back and for years Amer lumped all descended from Mongols as one. So, go back to your “notes please.” I logged on to learn from people who actually know Kmen. Pray tell, what are they generally like? I wanna hear tge common beliefs from Kmen and non kmen.
PS: THEY AGE VERY SLOWLY and so facial baby fat does make their faces look more fem in their twenties. Facial hair helps, but they’re still hot to me!
What are you guys talkin’ about? Korean guys have the best reputation in Asia as being masculin and romantic. Look at all the women across Asia drooling over Korean guys. Partly due to the Korean wave. I’ve seen many polls. For God sake there are love matching tours for Japanese women to come to Korea to meet Korean men. Japanee women aren’t poor like southeast Asian or Chinese women looking to get out of their countries.
Sure there are jerks who drink too much and become abusive but isn’t that for all other nationalities???
Even on largest US website dedicated to non Asian women who prefer Asian guys like Aznlover.com. Korean guys are by far the prefer choice. I think its because Korean guys are generally taller and have better physic than most other Asian men closeto the frame of white guys but have Asian features. I read Korean men on average are taller than French or Italian men. Only one inch shorter than average American men.
@Say What
Asian Women drool over hot Asian men in general, not just the Koreans. If you think Korea is the only country in Asia that have pretty boybands and handsome actors, you are wrong. Look at mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Japan. To be honest, all of those boybands look and act the same. They all have about the same physique and sex appeal. The Asian women you are referring to are mostly teenagers who are exposed to kpop or Kdrama and consumed by them, and most of them live in western countries such as United States. Real mature Asian women marry men within their own race because their Kpop or Kdrama craze has died down a long time ago.
If you haven’t been to Korea, you cannot say that “Korean guys are generally taller and have better physique”. I have been to Korea, mainly seoul, and people aren’t very tall. On the other hand, you don’t see many short korean singers, actors and models do you? Is like me saying that Chinese people are taller in general because YaoMing and Jeremy Lin are tall. Go to Korea and see for yourself. If you are Korean, then sorry to say, you are brainwashed by your countrie’s media and propaganda.
Lollll. Wowwww. How did I even get to this part of the internet. Its the part of the internet where douche-bags, nationalistic pigs and people who believe themselves to be ‘culturally aware’ but really, is just so embarrassingly clueless, surround themselves with each other and rip each other to bits.
Why do Asian people compare each other so much? If you ask me, there are people in the entire WORLD who drink/smoke/gamble and people who don’t. TWO GROUPS, that is all. There is no Korean = the gamblers, The Japanese/Chinese = Ungamblers.
It’s just people. Some people are shit, some people are not shit. It isn’t fucking culture lads. There are people like that anywhere in the world. The only reason that is so hard for people to accept, is because the people who ask stupid questions like this are so shrouded by their own insecurities.
Grow up people.
As for those girls obsessed with Korean men. Grow up as well. You don’t choose a man from their nationality. If you need to know, the reason Korean men are sometimes relatively more built than other Asian men during one period of their lives, are only because we have an arbitrary military service. They are not born that way, they are forced that way. Soon it will go, and all that will remain is your pityful dreams.
Yes. I am a young healthy Korean woman. I am 5’7, and am in the average height of my age (21). There has been many talks about Korean woman being relatively taller than other Asian woman. Let me try to explain this in the only way I can think of. Firstly, it is definitely NOT in our blood, so sdfu overly-proud Korean people, it isn’t in our blood, its in our lifestyle. Have you seen North Koreans? They have the same blood, but they’re as short and thin as critters. It’s in our lifestyles. If no one has noticed a lot of Korean high school students are very.. well fat. We eat a LOT. The Korean cuisine itself comes in huge amounts. We are extremely well fed, and until we hit our University years, diets of any sort are disapproved. When we do hit university, we have already grown relatively taller, and because of strong beauty-oriented society that we have, everyone goes on crazy diets. Also the perspective of feminine beauty in South Korea is that of a sexy, tall, lady-like woman. I have heard that the perspectives of feminine beauty in other Asian countries are slightly different. For example, a cuter, shorter, lovely and homely type of girl would be considered ‘perfect-er’.
SO.. well. this leaves a bunch of thin and tall South Korean university girls with plastic surgery plastered on their faces.
Korean society’s obsession with perfection as well as their different perspective of beauty is the only way I can explain the averages in woman height.
Sigh =_=
I have been around Korens for sometime and one thing that stands out is their obsesion with physical beauty. My friend jokes that you need to ask a potential mate if he or she ever has cosmetic surgery. You never know what your off-spring will look like.
@MBLAQ
You seem to have a reading problem. Why are you taking my comments out of context? Are you too blind to see that there are tons of articles written about popularity of Korean men throughtout Asia?
Sure there are handsome idol boys and actors throughtout Asia. Did I ever say there weren’t? But which country currently dominates pop culture in Asia? South Korea.
Ever heard o the Korean wave ? Is there a Japanese wave? Chinese wave currently?
No. First, the dramas, movies and now pop music.
Why don’t you do some research before having a temper tentrum.
Look up Bloomsburg report on Korean wave or why New Times articles.
Where is your proof to say Koreans are not the tallest in Asia?? I got my proof from varies world height indexes. Korean men on average are taller than Chinese or Japanese by at least two inches. One inch shorter than average American male.
Next time provide evidence troll
I think you all are reading to much into this. All people are fairly much the same. We all lust, we all cheat, we all smoke, drink and gamble a lot. We are all the flipping same. But we people believe we are different is because they have been raised to perceive us as different and that they are special butterflies.
@Say What
Before you start saying “I didn’t say this or that”, one of the lamest comebacks on the internet, have you ever thought that I don’t really give a shit if you did or not?
Now back to the topic, there are plenty of articles on the internet about the Korean Wave, all you have to do is type “Korean Wave” in Google. I don’t see any articles regarding Korean Wave on the front page of newspapers or magazines. It means that it is not a popular topic at all and that people really don’t give a shit about it unless you tell them. Also, how do you know if all of those articles you have read are not mere opinionated trash that anyone can write based on observation? There are plenty people out there in the world who never heard of the Korean Wave nor affected by it, and you are here telling everyone that it is a big deal while it is not.
I actually listen to Kpop, but I don’t believe Koreans are any better than any other Asian countries. They are just a dog following America. Have you ever thought about why they are “closest to the frame of white guys but have Asian features”? It is because they try very hard to be white undergoing massive plastic surgeries and skin bleaching. Kpop is just a polished up version of western pop. They take western pop songs and just make them sound better, and voila, Korean wave. The effort put in is minimum but fans are to the max. That is the definition of sellout. Many Koreans I have met do not like contemporary Kpop or Kdrama because they know they are to attract foreigners.
However, with all those evidence you have provided, what are you trying to say? Korean men are superior then other Asian men? There are so many flaws to your so called “evidence” that I think it is time for you to do further research, numbskull.
Read a lot of articles here and find myself shaking my head a lot as to say, “That’s not me at all”. Sure, I like to wind down from a long week and have a few beers, or some wine, a mixed drink, or whatever the preference, who doesn’t? This stressful day in age where everyone is expecting full education and work experience deems worthy of cutting loose every once in a while; hope some of you can agree.
Gambling with what I work hard for is not in me. Yes I work hard. I was raised to. I have seen people who say they are struggling to provide for their children, then I see their bridge-card as they are gambling their money at a casino (I work at one to pay for my classes, it is only temporary). I do not smoke. My parents worked hard for my braces and I see too many people with black, brown, or no teeth at all.
I’ve dated a few black girls, a couple of Latino girls, but mostly white girls. Not one Asian. They just don’t seem to be attracted to me for some reason. A lot of Asian girls turn their nose at me and date white and black people, don’t know why. True, I am not your traditional Asian, but I am very curious about all cultures including my own. Just like the yin and yang there is good and bad in everything and everyone.
However, I do see, and hear a lot of Asian slurs made from white and black, although I don’t quite understand why black people do it because they above all, I would think, know what it feels to be ridiculed for their physical characteristics. When there is a black assault, everyone stands still and there is a lot of persecution (media, movies, etc.). EVERYONE speaks out and especially the black people (as we all should). But when Asians are stereo typed by black or white people, the Asians don’t really speak out about it (I’m including ALL ASIANS). I don’t know if we just find it as a waste of time and energy to add more fuel to the fire, but this has been my experience throughout my life. I have done and continue to do my best in representation. Representing myself, my God, my family, my friends, my co-workers, my race, my various and diverse brothers, etc., etc. I think the best line I have ever heard in my life was in the movie CRASH where Terrence Howard looks at Ludacris and says, “You embarrass me, you embarrass yourself”.
Oh, and by the way. Asian males are not the only ones that keep up their looks. I believe that is a worldly event that has been overtaken by the constant requests from our sisters asking us to be neater, comb our hair, dress better, act like a gentlemen, be productive, expand our minds, etc., etc. I thought this was an overall unsaid agreement to better ourselves as a whole; not to appear more superior than some others, not to be less of a male, and certainly not to have a conceded mindset. That is not why I carry myself that way. I look, act, and speak that way because it is good. I tell myself, that this is how I want to conduct myself in others’ presence. Not to make myself seem more superior, but to act by gentlemanly means.
And I work hard because some people do not work at all. I loved the line in I AM LEGEND when Will Smith quotes Bob Marley, “The people in this world who are making it worse are not taking a day off, how can I?” True, I do take some time to unwind, but everything in moderation, right?
Oh, and about the money issue. True, I do and would like to earn as much as I can. But not only to enrich just my own life, but my family and the people in my life. The thoughts and expresses of how the money is spent does reflect how you are portrayed. I would rather not support other people’s families when they are fully capable of providing for themselves. I have observed too many people who say they are struggling, but waste their time and money on boos, drugs, and gambling (this includes ALL races, colors, creeds, sexes, etc.). I want to enrich my family’s lives. I want to express thank you’s to my parents for providing for my life for years. I want my wife and kids(someday) to come to me and say “let’s go on vacation”, and for my response to be, “sure, when and where?”. And my overall goal is to retire, travel to third world countries and build houses, churches, schools, hospitals, etc. to the communities who need it. I want to leave behind a legacy. My high school quote was, “What I know now, I will put to good use. What I do not know, I will eventually learn; and it will put me to good use.”. Corny I know, but they’re my words I do my best to live by.
