Typical SAM: Short, black hair with gel

"Hair is everything"

Let me guess? You have short black hair, and it’s a bit stiff. HA! I knew it! It baffles me that so many SAMs look like cleancut, professional lawyers and doctors. Oh, that’s right! Lots of SAMs ARE lawyers and doctors! But, I digress. My point is it’s just too prominent. Here are a few fashion tips for you SAMs concerning your hair. Hair is important guys! Don’t you know the biblical story of SAMson? His HAIR was the source of his power and vitality! And it’s also true for us when it comes to getting girls. Girls don’t want a guy with a bad hairdo. Here are some guidelines for you:

1. Go easy on the gel!!! Let’s face it, we Asians need hair product cuz most of us have stiff, straight hair that is hard to style otherwise. But, don’t use too much! I keep seeing these SAMs who put so much gel in their hair that you can see down to their scalps. You know what I’m talkin’ about! It reminds me of a porcupine, or a sea urchin. There’s no point in putting gel at the root;it has no holding power there. Also, it’ll probably make you go bald in your late 30s. Gel works best when you use it on the ends. Also, try some alternatives like modeling wax that doesn’t appear so wet. It’s also not as stiff.

Try growing your hair out for a change! Yes, don’t you know that you can grow your hair beyond 2 cms? That way, you don’t have to go to the barbershop every damn week! And, it’s just more modern. Clipper cuts are so 80s, and there are just too many Asians with army cuts. Get a modern, Asian fashion magazine, and check out the cool new styles. Especially the Japanese ones. Maybe try a Beckham hairdo! Texturize and layer your hair. Stop being so conservative!

3. But, if you must get your haircut, don’t go to those cheap shops like Hairmasters or Supercuts. Also, get an Asian stylist, cuz white people just don’t know how to cut Asian hair. It’s a fact! I’ve been butchered so many times it’s not even funny. (I was so pissed, but I still tipped! I’m so pathetic…)

4. Try dyeing your hair. Get a rock’n'roll hairstyle with streaks of color. Or, just give your hair a brown tint to see how it looks. Experiment! Stop being so traditional SAM!

  1. What if you’re not a metro and don’t like doing all this gay shit to your hair. It’s too damn time consuming and cost money.

  2. Well, this is my rant on fashion. Just remember that girls like a guy with good style and hair. So, if you’re interested in a stylish, cute girl, you better be stylin’ too. I know too many really fashion-retarded guys interested in these hot stylin’ women, and they are still wearing their Member’s Only jackets from the 80s.

  3. Actually, FotBs, Mainland guys are usually so more stylish than Asian-Americans. Americans have better personal hygeine, nicer bodies, but do so little with them.

  4. LOL, I love the article. Before I found this site I was perusing the web about a month or so back on this exact topic because I needed something to replace my buzz cut that i was getting so sick of. As for the guys that don’t really want to deal with product and the time in the morning, I respect that perspective because I shared it not too long ago. However, I also realized, when paired with my sterner features and physique, too many girls were just outwardly intimidated by me. Guys I work with figured I was still living by military doctrine and my friends kept telling me for the smallest damn things to RELAX. Having grown it out, (i intend to add color and get a layered razor cut or something, not sure yet) the change in responses are already immediate. Friends and co workers have openly said I looked more casual and relaxed and for the first time since probably high school I can pretty much look and smile at a cute single girl and at the least get her number, but a lot of times its generally much better than that. I never really figured much for hair and fashion sense before but yeah it really does make a big damn difference. If you dont want to deal with being categorized in a trend label or spend time styling and using hair product combined with dressing well in the morning that’s fine but from one SAM to the rest of you, its a night and day difference on how you’re received and furthermore how much it can get you laid.

  5. OK, I have to speak up about this topic. I <3 Asian guys so much, and their hair is one of the best things about them from a physical standpoint. I love to play in a guy's hair, but if it is all stiff and crunchy, that's a no go :(

What I wish more Asian guys would do:

-Let your hair grow out a bit, so I have feel it between my fingers. Mmm.

-Do NOT get one of those weird spiky comb-over things like Yunho wears. Please! Don't! It looks gay.

-Leave your hair BLACK. Do not bleach it brown, it just looks dumb. I love a guy with jet black hair, it looks so good in contrast with your skin. If I wanted a guy with brown hair there are 12 zillion white dudes around who have brown hair. Yawn. No thanks.

    - Tell the barber not to cut your hair too short in the back if you have a cowlick (hair that is really straight and wants to stick straight up, located right at the top rear part of your head). White barbers seemed to assume my ex-husband yearned to have a 2.5 inch spray of hair sticking up in the back of his head. All they have to do is let that part stay an inch or two longer and it will lay down on its own! No need for gel to control it.

  6. I gotta say I hate that SAM hair too, but I’ve been noticing that it’s mostly popular with Cantonese Asians. I personally hate gel. It makes my hair feel greasy and I tend to brush my hair when i’m thinking about things so it ends up on my hands.

I agree with capngown. We are Asians. Jet black hair is awesome! Why the hell would you want to dye it brown or friggin blonde?

I also wanted to add. Our hair is straight and rigid. That actually makes it very easy to style. You can curl it, make it wavy, grow bangs, grow it really long like Robin Shou or back in the olden days with the mad long ponytail lol or go totally bald like alot of middle age mainlanders are doing.

For me personally I have gel-less sprayless hair that looks like this pretty much. http://pic.mrwcn.cn/Upload/2011/1/29/2011012911530181.jpg I think it’s called a suit cut in Chinese because that’s the haircut guys in tuxes have?
